4 Simple Steps For Creating Web Content

by Steve Vox on January 31, 2010

Anyone who has been involved with Internet marketing for any length of time knows content is king on the web.  We do all kinds of things to avoid the content creation process.  Tweek  your blog pages, play with the color and layout of your site, surf around the web waiting for inspiration.  I know all about it, I use to do that all the time and still catch myself sometimes fiddling away precious time.

Facts are facts!  If you’re gonna be successful with internet marketing,  you need to create good fresh content on a regular basis.  That means a lot of writing, creating videos, etc.  If you can’t write you either need to learn how to, or get someone to write for you.

Creating useful content for the web is the most important thing you need to do,  and usually the hardest thing to do for most would be internet mega stars to get done.

The truth is, until you create useful content for your site, your not gonna get traffic.  No traffic means no money.  The sooner you fess up to it the better.

You don’t need to be a Pulitzer prize winning writer to create useful web content.  I am not a very good writer by any means but, I practice a lot and am getting better all the time.  I think if you can  get your point across in a manner that can be understood by your average reader, your ok.

So here are the 4 steps that I feel are the important to get started on:

  • Practice, Practice, Practice

I feel this is the most important step.  The more you write the better you will get and the more ideas will flow from your brain.  When I need to get going, I just start typing on a blank page and before I know it, I am on a roll.  Don’t worry about what you are typing,  just write down the first thing that is in your head.  Sometimes I just write random sentences and paragraphs.  Then I will cut and paste them into a meaningful post.

  • Write useful comments on other blogs

Writing comments on other blogs is a win-win situation.  You get to practice writing, you contribute to others blogs and you get some exposure and links for your site.  Of course you need to write something that will contribute and be relevent.  Don’t just write comments for the sake of writing, Use a scratch blog for that (see below)

  • Visit forums and get involved.

Getting involved in forums and groups can help you get feedback on your writing and also give you great ideas about topics that are being discussed.  If you are creating a niche blog and want to know what the needs are of people involved in that subject, that’s the place to be.

  • Create scratch blogs where you can write without worrying about if it’s good or not

Set up a scratch blog using a pen name.  No one will know it’s you and you can

write till your hearts content and not worry about whether it’s good or not.I have a review blog where I just write about stuff I use and it gets me going when I am seized up and staring at the computer screen.

You can use any of the free blog services, WordPress, Blogger.  I like to register a domain and setup WordPress on my own host.  This way if my blog becomes a huge success, I will have complete control.

Remember.. “The more you write, The more you write.” Steve Vox.. I think.

Conclusion.

Set aside some time and write for 15-30 minutes at a time non stop.  Increase that time but try not to exceed 50 minutes at a time.  Give your self a 10 minute break every hour.  Turn off the instant messenger, Turn off the email program and all the other distractions that will interrupt you and focus on the project at hand.  With some practice and patience you will find writing enjoyable and fulfilling.

P.S.S.

Some of my favorite Stephen King Quotes on writing:

“I am the literary equivalent of a Big Mac and Fries.”

“When asked, “How do you write?” I invariably answer, “one word at a time.”

“If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot.”

4 Steps To Writing Your First Blog Post

by Steve Vox on January 30, 2010

When thinking about this first blog post I went to google and searched “how to write your first blog post”  I got quite a few results and a lot of different opinions on how you should structure your first post.

Most articles had a list that went something like this:

  1. Who You are.
  2. Why Are You Blogging
  3. What is this blog about and what will you be writing
  4. Let your readers know how they can comment and get involved

Made sense to me,  4 easy steps to writing your first blog post.  This is the post I’m supposed to WOW my new readers with and hook them into coming back to read what I write.

So now it’s my turn to fill in the blanks

Who is Steve Vox?

Actually SteveVox is the name of my web site. “Vox” is the latin word for “voice”.  My real name is Steve Brooks.

I am a entrepreneur, Online Marketer and Writer.  I have been online since 1994 and ran dial in BBS’s prior to that.  I work in the communications field full time.

I have created static web sites, wordpress blogs, made money with Adsense and sold stuff with Adwords.  I also have niche sites that promote affiliate products, etc.

I am a ebook junkie and am learning about making videos for the web. Some might say I have a Form A.D.D and jump around a lot and lack focus (Is true and I am working on it) :) I also play guitar and sing.  That’s a lot of I’s.

Why am I blogging?

I am always reading books, surfing the web and picking up new information.  I have helped people I know personally get online and make money and promote their business.

like helping people and would like to expand on that.  There are a ton of people online writing about making money from home but a lot of them have a different take on it and look at things from a different angle.  Everybody is unique and may have a new perspective.

The other reason I blog is to improve my writing.  The more you write the better you get.  I don’t claim to be a great write in fact it’s quite the opposite.  According to some I write horribly, but I don’t really care if it gets my point across in a somewhat understandable way. :)

What is this blog about and what will you be writing?

As I hinted above.  This blog is about my take Internet Marketing, Making money online and working from home.  I lean towards the basics in business and using practical ways to get things done.  I am also in the get rich slow club.  I don’t subscribe to the “Get Rich” crowd and some of the absurd stuff I have heard online.  Business and marketing are a marathon not a sprint.  You need to be consistent in your actions and practice the basics everyday.

And last but not least..

Let your readers know how they can comment and get involved

I would love to hear from you. You can leave a comment in the space below the post.  Or you can email me at steve@stevevox[DOT]com

Well there you have it.  I don’t know if I Wow’ed anyone but I gave it a good shot.  I can’t promise this blog will change your life but lets see what we can do.
