I have a couple of new grand children running around the house and I needed to protect them from falling down our basement stairs. In our house the stairs are open and there is no door.
So, I went on Amazon and found the best seller baby gate or as some call safety gate. I decided on the Regalo Easy Step Walk Thru Gate with a white finish. The gate fits spaces between 29" and 39" inches wide
The Regalo is a walk through gate. It has a handy one hand operating latch that allows you to walk through the gate. With our old gate, you had to climb over it or, remove it to get through. As you can imagine, climbing over a baby gate at the top of the stairs was not easy or smart.
I am happy with the safety gate. For the money, it is well made and has a good finish. The gate operates easily and all in all it was good buy.
The Regalo safety gate arrival. As you can see, it's rated for children ages 6 to 24 months.
The gate is well packed and protected. More plastic and Styrofoam to go to the recyle station.
Little difficult to see here but, there is a gap between the latch and the gate. The instructions have a NOTICE that this is normal and not a defect. Once you tighten up the gate to the wall, the gap will close.
Wall mounts and instruction booklet.
Wall mounts have a rubber piece to protect the wall. It also comes with round plastic things you can screw to the wall for a more permanent installation. I didn't screw the round thingys to the wall.
The first step is to run the adjustment knob all the way up to the rubber wall mount.
Insert the wall mount into the gate at the four corners.
The baby gate comes with an extension piece for wider openings. I had to use the extension. You insert the extension pieces and the insert the wall mounts into that.
Safety gate installed. I found it easier to tighten the top mounts first and then tighten the bottom ones. It may help to have two people but, I did it myself.
Close up view of the rubber wall protector.
This is the gate latch in the open position.
Gate latch closed. You can open the gate one handed. Just slide the red piece back and lift the handle. In the locked position, it is secure.
Close up of plastic cups you can screw to the wall and the mount the rubber friction pieces inside. I didn't use these for my installation.
So there you have it. The installation of the Regalo Model 1160 Easy Step Walk Thru Gate at the top of the basement stairs.
Installing by myself, it took about 20 minutes to get setup and installed. I would recommend the Regalo if you need a baby safety gate.
